Default Issues with the new site?

If you discover problems with the new site, eg you can't do something you used to be able to, or don't have access to somewhere you should, please post about it in here.

While I have tried to get the permissions correct, right from the start, it is entirely possible that there are some that are missing, so please do let us know if you run into any problems.

Thanks!

Titch, I think you've worked marvels here! One thing I find a little bemusing though ... we all seem to have joined in January 1970 - even Maddy who wasn't born until 23 years later!!!

I know - like the passwords failing to make it across, it's another of the little quirks! I suspect we can reconstruct it given a bit of time, I'll have to basically find out what the internal database field is called in this forum system, and extract the appropriate field from the backups of the old system. It's a job for another time though!

Awww gee Gilly, I just came in here to mention that XD Ya beat me to it =P

I can't get into the General Discussions forum atm...it says the database has encountered an error...not too sure whether this is a problem with a site, the school internet or what...just thought I'd mention it.

Server needed a reboot. Lorian just got me on MSN to say "loads of errors from someone called madmclw, looks like they're trying something that isn't working" (any errors go straight to his email box, so that he can monitor whether the sites he hosts are working, to limit down time)

Anyway, should be ok again now - the operating system had a hissy fit by the look of it!

I think it should be a simple bit of SQL to get the dates sorted out (something along the lines of uploading the old member table to the server then SQL similar to UPDATE new_member_table SET new_member_table.date_joined = old_member_table.date_joined WHERE new_member_table.member_name = old_member_table.member_name for the geeks among you.)

Aha...he's gonna have some more now because it still won't let me in =[[ Why general discussions of all things?! It'll let me go to the thread with the latest post in it if I click on that bit, but not the list of threads...=[ Sorry

ARRGGHH!! The same message comes up when I try to get into the User CP bit as well...I've been in there before though, same as general discussions...

Okay, and for the sake of trying everything out now, to see what I can and can't do, you know the new posts link at the top? It comes up if I do that as well =/

That's utterly bizarre I have no idea why you're having problems. I've checked your account, and you're in the correct group, and also I've checked the rights that the group has in terms of forum access and they are correct.

I'm wondering whether it's worth creating you an entirely new account, see how that works, and merge your existing one onto it. I'll make an account in just a mo and see if I run into any problems with forum access when in the same group as you. If I don't, you can try the account yourself, swap between the two and make sure that you don't have problems either, then merge. Are the problems occurring while accessing the site from different places (ie school, home etc)?

I'm a bit concerned that it has happened in areas that you were able to access. I'll check with Lorian tomorrow as well to see if there were any more server issues, as it might just be that you had a case of really bad luck and managed to hit both times that it was having problems.

Doesn't appear to be anything to do with the group as I've just merrily clicked around with this account, which is in the same group as your normal account. I'll PM you the password in a mo, so that if you're still having troubles you can try using this account and see if it makes any difference.

Sorry for the hassles

Ho, well, I just went back onto the other account for sake of trying, and it still comes up =[ The first time I mentioned it it was at school, 2nd time and now it's at home, AND on two different computers...It's working fine on this account though.

And don't apologise!! It's not your fault. Thank you so much for all your help =]

Sorry, I had a bit of a senior moment and posted my help request in the wrong place - I'll blame it on the meds Im taking lol.

I dont appear to have access to all areas, Pink room, over 18's etc- is there still a members gallery?

Sorry for the mistake - I would like to say well done for all your efforts getting us back up and running though, you have all worked so hard and the site looks great !!

Maddy - hopefully your normal account will now work. I tried to merge it onto the new one, and couldn't, got errors, which suggested the database had problems. So it looks like yesterday, either the database server crashed and took Windows with it, or Windows crashed and took the database server with it, and you just had the bad luck to be doing something in the middle of that time, so that your account got locked.

Anyway, let me know if you still have problems!

Lady p, you should have access now

i don't have a problem but i wanted to say that i really like the new profiles, with the bits about what sort of surgery you've had, whether you've been braced/cast etc. brilliant! is there a way that members can search for all people who've had for example anterior surgery, so that stories can be easily read? or is that too complicated a thing? just curious, as it may benefit new or shy members who want to read some of our stories.

Ah, I'm glad you like them They'll probably need some work yet, as the options are just what I was able to dash off quickly, so they may not be terribly well thought out in some cases. As to searching on them, click Members List (3rd option on the navbar at the top), and at the top right of the member list click Search Members, then select Advanced. You can only search on selection fields, and I haven't had time to test how it works with the ones where multiple selection is allowed, so I have no idea how well it works with them - definitely works well with the single selection ones though
