Dr. Marcel Dvorak at Vancouver General. He's supposed to be excellent - I'm waiting to see him. He also has a supporting cast, such as Dr. Brian Kwon.

    Hi Lucinda,

I see you posted about Dr Ian Torode who operates at Royal Childrens hospital Victoria Australia, is he to be recommended as Eva some time in the future will be seeking an opinion on having her rib hump reduced.

If you have the time, I would love to her your experience.

    Bye for now

I'm so sorry for the late reply, I haven't visited the forum in ages and only just saw this.

I can definitely recommend Dr Torode and I regard him highly. The amount of doctors I have seen in my life have been numerous (thanks to an array of illnesses&#33, but none have ever topped Dr Torode in terms of bedside manner and the respect, and regard for the well being of his patients that he has. He's very warm-hearted. I always felt safe in his hands. He is particularly wonderful with children, and is based at the Royal Children's Hospital at Melbourne, but does consultations at other places, too. I haven't seen him in quite some time as my scoliosis is under control now, but I saw him every month for almost three years, and he was the one who ended up doing my two scoliosis operations around six years ago. After that I saw him once a year for check-ups over a few years and then that was that! He's very approachable in terms of you feeling comfortable to ask him questions - he even gave me his email address so that I could email him any questions that I may have forgotten to ask inside the appointment. My mother liked him a lot, too. He's very thorough and knowledgeable, and I can't imagine wanting anyone else to do my scoliosis operations.

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me. And sorry once again for the late reply!

I haven't had surgery, but I get monitored by an orthopedic specialist named Dr. Peter Moskovitz in Washington, DC. I like him a lot. He's very matter-of-fact and doesn't seem to pressure you to make a decision one way or another. Just gives you the facts and his opinion and leaves the choice up to you. I think he works with both children and adults.

had surgery in 89 at royal victoria hospital in montreal, but was patient thru shriners montreal
surgeon was Dr. gordon he was among the best at time, sadly
a year later he moved to a clinic in DC and from what i was told was hit by a bus severing his spine and he later died of injurys, very sad case of irony spent over 20 years as one of the top spinal surgeons, was among the team that created the harrington rod procedure, then to die of spinal injurys is just sad.

I am currently scheduled to have surgery with Dr. Hostin at the Baylor Scoliosis Center in Plano, Texas. Dr. Shelokov started the practice, I believe.

Can anyone give me any information about this practice or Dr. Hostin specifically? I really liked him when I met him and felt very comfortable with him, but the closer I'm getting to my surgery date, the more freaked out I'm getting about everything.

Just curious if anybody has heard of Dr. William Donaldson III from University of Pittsburgh? I am scheduled to see him next week. He was rated as one of the top 100 doctors in the Pittsburgh area in 2008.

Also, if anybody knows of a great doctor in the Ohio, West Virginia or Pennsylvania area, I would be greatly appreciative. I want to get a few opinions about what is going on.

    Thanks in advance!

For anyone in Australia, my trusted surgeon is

    Dr. Geoff N. Askin
    Mater Private Clinic
    550 Stanley Street
    Suite 1, Level 5
    Brisbane, QLD 4101
    Australia
    Phone: +61 7 3010 3324

The SRS lists his specialities as: Adolescent, Adult Scoliosis, Aging Spine, Degenerative Conditions, Juvenile/Infantile

This is my first surgery with Dr. Askin, but the 2 previous fusions were done by the surgeon who trained him (Dr. Bill Ryan, who was very well respected but retired now). Dr. Ryan thankfully got Dr. Askin to take me on. He is extremely thoughtful both in his patient/bedside care & planning surgery. And, importantly, my other assorted surgeons are usually very pleased that it's Dr. Askin who will be working on me. He is absolutely honest about the risks with this surgery for me but he has given me hope.

in 1988 (age 40) and was pleased with my care. As an adult I was interested in finding a doctor who performed 'many' adult surgeries and learned of Dr. Lonstein through researching the medical library at the University of AL Medical Center in Birmingham, AL. His name was found repeatedly in various research. I corresponded with him for 12 years via mail - sending x-rays etc, - prior to my first 'face to face' with him.

18 years post op I have some chronic 'greater trochander bursitis' which is annoying but tolerable. I have a rod broken in my upper back-probably means a weekness in the fusion.
My grand daughter has just been to a Dr. Ledkye, I dont know if I am spelling that right. But this Dr mentioned Dr Lonstein. We went there from the Shriners in Minneapolis to Childrens Specialty Healthcare in St Paul. In Aug she was at a 49 degree, now in Dec to a 90. They want to schedule surgery for veptr rods soon. Only functioning on one lung and touching liver. Iam only the grandmother but am so worried, she will only be 3 in Feb. This Dr sounded like she knew what she was doing, but I would like to know if she is as good as Iam hearing. I understand that this Dr Lonstein is her collegue. My grand daughter was diagnosed when she was just 9 months and has been in a brace since but curve has gotten worse.I have been so sick with worry if this is the right procedure and if she is a good surgeon. Supposedly this is the only route at this time and time is running out for her. She has been hospitalized for various lung ailments and my daughter and her husband really liked this Dr. Ledkye. So the decision is/will not be mine. I think we are more in shock than anything at this point.I have been looking at risks, and this is going to be a long road till she is 18 or so, also I feel she will have a lifetime of pain, etc. They have been saying that they could hold off any surgery till she was around 5 or so. Not now. I have been looking up and contacting anyone that can help as far as the cost. They have some insurance but not much. This is the problem, they will not do it unless can be paid for 1st. I am really upset about that. Would they let my precious grandchild die, just because of money??? I asked that at the appt. in St Paul. Dr said her hands were tied. If anyone has info about this Dr Ledkye and any complications from this procedure she has done or the successes. Please let me know.

Does anyone know of any scoliosis specialists in Southern Ontario that are NOT pediatric specialists? I contacted Drs. Hahn, Missiuni, and Peterson and they will not see anyone over the age of 18. I am 27 and have never seen anyone about my scoliosis.
