Hi Jean - MY identity here at SSO is amazed but I am also a Jean. I also have seen Dr. Lonstein. He is certainly well known and did write the book on scoliosis that most doctors used as a text book. I have had no surgeries and no bracing. Just wanted to welcome you.
I am 61 years old and the resident SSO fossil. I live in Oklahoma,USA with my husband Allen. We have one daughter Jae and she has three kids. Our grandkids are: Aidan is8. He's the one pictured in my current avatar. Jenna Jean is 7 and Ryan Allen is just 4 It's full time chaos here! I was diagnosed in 1965 at 14 years with Kyphoscoliosis and 2 curves measuring 68 and 63 degrees. My last measurements were in 2004 at 155, 88 and 55+ degrees. I have never had surgery or bracing so I now am on full time oxygen and use a Non Invasive Ventilator at night. at night.

Billy was treated by Dr. Richard Bowen
    AI duPont Hospital for Children
    Wilmington, DE

We've had great care from the hospital and docs there for all of Billy's medical issues.

Clealcovey is being treated by Dr. Alexis P. Shelokov name at Plano, Texas.
37 years old, diagnosed with infantile idiopathic scoliosis at 6 months old with curves of 62(T) and 40(L) degrees. Casting and Milwaukee braces until surgery at 10 - ant release/pos fusion T1-T12, halo traction. Post op cast and then TLSO. Further surgery at 18 (ant release/pos fusion extended to L3 to include lumbar curve, costoplasty) and 25 (another costoplasty). Fusion extended to L4 at 33 (XLIF with 4 pedicle screws and two short rods). Pre-op curves: 76(T) and 70(L). Post-op curves: 45(T) and 35(L). Diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome aged 34; scoliosis almost certainly due to this rather than being idiopathic.

    Hi All,

Its been a while since I posted, in fact almost a year if the truth be known!
I am Eva's mum and I know she has been posting recently and delighted to be able to correspond with others who have walked in her shoes.

Eva has both her operation performed at Cappagh hospital by Damien McCormack, but we are looking futher afield in fact Australia for a optho surgeon to get a second opinion on a coplasty.

Does anyone know of any such surgeons in Sydney.

    Thanks

    Bye for now

    Hi Lucinda,

I see you posted about Dr Ian Torode who operates at Royal Childrens hospital Victoria Australia, is he to be recommended as Eva some time in the future will be seeking an opinion on having her rib hump reduced.

If you have the time, I would love to her your experience.

    Bye for now

    Dr. Laurence E. Mermelstein
    North Shore University Hospital
    North Shore/LIJ Hospital System
    Long Island, NY

He's a pediatic scoliosis specialist and an amazing doctor. He's the top scoliosis specialist on Long Island. He treats everyone with care and respect. If he sees that your condition needs immediate care and action (as mine did), he will make sure you get it as soon as possible. I went into his office this June, about mid-way through the month, for the first time and I was immediately scheduled for surgery in the beginning of August. Usually it takes months to get a surgery date, but my dad had the date within a week of my appointment. If you live on Long Island, I highly recommend him.

His practice is Long Island Spine Specialists, P.C. in Commack, Long Island, NY.
You can view his bio here. http://www.lispine.com/doctors/bio_mermelstein.shtml
