Default New to Forum, Starting Recovery Road

    Hey everyone!
I am new to this site and just by reading everything every one has said it has brought me comfort that other people understand what type of pain, physical and emotional, I go through almost daily. I've had a back problem for most of my life but didn't start really taking action on it until now. When I was 16 I had my first brace but it didn't really help very much. I then did physical therapy for a little while as well as went to the chiropractor, but again nothing ultimately helped. Frustrated, I took a break from dealing with my back and doctors and just worked my way through the pain. Last year I received a new brace that would fit me better, but it still doesn't do much for my back. My pain has become much more severe and I have decided to become much more aggressive in my treatment. I went to the doctor today and they had me get x-rays, put me on an anti-inflammatory, and are requesting that I do physical therapy again for a month while they find me a specialist.
I'm ultimately hoping for surgery, especially before my dad's insurance runs out, so we'll see how things go! I'm open to any advice/questions as well. Excited to receive some support!

    Hi

    Welcome to the forum

I guess by reading your post your surgeon is going down the bracing route before thinking about surgery

I understand what you are going through. Pysical pain is hard enough to come to terms with but add in emotional termoil as well it can be very difficult to come terms with.

Where abouts in the world are you. We have a thread in the general discussions with surgeons and hospitals throughout the uk and america. Perhaps you could get a second opinion

I'm in Michigan. And it's not my surgeon, it's just my doctor. She doesn't think that I have any problems and is just doing the same things that she did before. I am going to get copies of my xrays and see myself, and hopefully find a different doctor who will actually want to help me. I just feel really alone in my care and I hope that I get things resolved soon.

I went through pretty much the same thing. First diagnosed with Kyphosis when I was 14, tried everything and then took a break, then decided on surgery last year when I was 26.

You're better off talking to an orthopedic surgeon, rather than your regular doctor.
    Fused T2-L3 on 8/20/15 for Scheuermann's kyphosis
