Re: Trunk rotation - Is it possible to fix?

Ah I see - the vast majority of people have their rib humps at the posterior of their ribcage, but yours is interesting and different due to you having an unusual form of scoli. Thanks for posting...

Re: Trunk rotation - Is it possible to fix?

If your rib hump is on your right hand side then you have a right convex thoracic curve, not a concave one. The convexity is what causes it to bow outwards into the hump.

Re: Older people and Scoliosis surgery

I know it is often done as a standalone surgery, as it's also seen in people without spinal deformities. I'm unsure whether our members here had it done as a standalone though - hopefully they will...

Re: Older people and Scoliosis surgery

As Paul is probably aware, Spinal Stenosis is where the bone around the spinal cord becomes tightly encased around the cord, squashing it and leading to neuro issues. A decompression removes some...

Re: spinal injections

It can be very useful to see the Pain Clnic - there is a lot they can do without needing MRI scans etc. An experienced pain management doctor can feel your spinal muscles for spasms and do...

Re: Introduction and Questions

The steri-strips should fall off naturally with showering anyway. I know they are a pain but it's probably best to wait for them to come away on their own. Three weeks post-op is still very early...

Re: help! need advice

Rods may break if there is an area of non-union of the fused area of the spine, because the micro-movements caused by this non-union puts tiny amounts of stress of the rod which can eventually lead...

Hi Prince! Welcome to SSO :welcome2:

You are doing amazingly well for soneone who is just two weeks post op! Please don't push yourself too hard - it is VERY early days. Walk as much as you feel is...

Re: Very worried!

Hi Steph, welcome to SSO :welcome2:

Fom the date in your username, it sounds as though you are about the same age as I am. I had scoliosis since I was a baby and had my thoracic spine (T1-T12) fused...

Re: Front rib discomfort

Yes, the effects of the injections wear off but for me the anterior rib pain never came back as bad as it had been before. When I get it now, it is mild discomfort rather than really sharp annoying...

Re: rectal prolapse

I thought I'd post this info up as some members may be worried about this issue but they may have haemorrhoids (piles) rather than a rectal prolapse. Haemorrhoids are pretty common, and are usually...

Re: Front rib discomfort

Hi Sarah, this is most likely to be nerve pain from your back that tracks round to the front of your ribcage. I had exactly the same sort of discomfort, and a steroid injection into my back sorted it...

Re: special clothes for deformitys

There aren't any manufacturers of clothes specifically for spinal deformity patients, and I would imagine this is because everybody's case is highly individual. All our curves are different! If this...

Re: Update and scared

I'm sorry to hear this Kara, and I hope you don't need to have the screw put in your foot. It should help a lot though, if you do. Take care, here's a hug :squeeze: and some flowers :flowers:

Re: Back brace after surgery

Hi Carrie,

As you know, not all consultants routinely brace their patients post-op, but some do. It's usally as a precaution more than anything else. For the first three months she should be very...

Re: Curving again?

Fusions do "settle a bit" whilst you are fusing, so patients often notice a small decrease in the correction of their curves, but once fused they ought to stay in place. A large loss of correction is...

Sorry I have no idea Burdle, but I'm going to raise this issue at our next meeting. It is definitely the sort of thing we should be feeding back to the surgeons. NB not all surgeons in the group make...

Re: Mr Tucker resigning from Stanmore! :-(

I've no idea, sorry :( He's not a member of the group - we have one consultant surgeon from each geographical area of England, and Matthew Shaw represents Stanmore/NW London.

Re: exercises before surgery

Hi Orchid!

It can be very good to exercise before surgery and get yourself as fit as possible, as that often makes recovery quicker. Regarding tight muscles though, please don't worry too much about...
