Re: 17 months post op update.

Mathias, Ed makes the best point about staying active. I am about 2-1/2 years out of surgery now and still get pretty wrecked from a day on the couch. The NCAA tourney is KILLING me!

But seriously,...

Re: 6 months post-op and my muscle soreness has not gone away

Hey Mike,

It's been 2 years plus for me and I still get muscle spasms occasionally. A muscle relaxer is the only thing that works for me to ease it up.

As far as working out, I have found that...

Re: Newly diagnosed son. Questions on bracing

Hi Trish,

My doc, who is pretty progressive in the field, was very outspoken about the fact that bracing for Scheuermann's does more harm than good. His reasoning is that it replaces the support...

Re: How do they determine the percentage of correction?

Kay, bear in mind that regardless of the numbers, it is a speculative figure and that they will only correct as much as your spinal cord will allow without being stressed. I was hoping for a better...

Re: Surgery 14th August & I'm in need of advice.

You can also message me.

I'm almost 2 years out from surgery one. Don't sweat the stress. (I know, that doesn't make sense and the reality is, if you weren't stressed about it, it wouldn't be worth...

Re: Surgery Scheduled - June 28th (Scheuermann's Kyphosis)....Not gonna lie, I am sca

Kay, I have a tattoo on my upper back that got cut 3 separate times from 3 surgeries and it doesn't line up correctly. It's my daughter's initials with colorful rays of light behind it and I will be...

Re: sleeping postition

I was never able to sleep on my back pre-surgery because my curve was so advanced that the ratcheting of my neck to lie my head back actually cut off my airway once I fell asleep and I stopped...

Re: recovery

So, I'm one of the old farts in the club here and had my fusion at 40. It took me several months to be able to do a "few hours" straight. It even still hurts a year and a half later to do that. I had...

Re: What would life be like if you didn't have the surgery?

Well, let's see.

I would be in chronic pain, perhaps for the rest of my life. I'd be working out every day (with few visible results) just to be able to stand reasonably upright. I would still be...

Re: First opinion.

I think that you are getting another evaluation is a great idea. Perhaps Dr. Vaccaro will have some more of the positive aspects in mind and maybe it will help with your decision.

My correction...

Thanks for this info Dave. I have a spot on my right side that just hurts a bunch and none of the therapy or body work that I've had done has helped. Perhaps it's the same deal with me and another...

Re: protruding metalwork

No protrusions from metal but my C7 vertebra is very prominent as all of the rear processes have been removed from T1 to L1 and I had a very pronounced curve (110 deg) for many years.

I do know how...

Re: Tattoos?

Thanks Dave!

What part of NY are you from. I had the ink done in lower Manhattan but I live in the Berkshires of MA about 10 minutes drive to NY state.

Cheers,
Scott

Re: Tattoos?

Storm, don't worry about asking your surgeon. It was my tattoo artist who told me about it. They are sometimes reluctant to tat a scar if it's real keloided but yours doesn't look that way at all....

Thanks! I actually thought after I messaged you that that's what your tattoo was! Banksy's art is definitely some cool stuff.

I have chosen to let my scar speak for itself. I've had a lot of people...

Well, you have time to consider something cool if you choose. Not something to go into lightly, for sure. Thanks for the compliment.

Re: Doctor said my kyphosis and scoliosis is unreversable.

If you're only 15, it's not likely that you are truly done growing. With me, every growth spurt advanced my curvature as I had 6 vertebrae effected by Scheurmann's. Plenty of this growing happened...
