Re: physio

I was started on a basic physical therapy thing about 8 weeks post-op, and to be honest it was very easy. They had me do really simple stuff like get up from chairs with 5-10lb medicine balls and...

Re: With Kyphosis 90+ degree - Nausea/Upset Stomach?

I used to have this all the time. Bad heartburn, and on a few occasions I actually felt what I believed to be mild ulcers. Eating a lot made me anxious, as if I couldn't breathe properly, etc. It...

Re: My Scheuermann's Disease story with pics

Mike,

Congrats on going through with the surgery. It appears that it was a complete success; your back looks perfect. Also, even a year out you are still healing quite a bit and are swollen deep...

Re: Dont know what to do

You have Scheuermann's disease, that is what I had/have. Wedging. According to what you wrote, though, everything else (spinal health, discs, bones etc) look pretty good. That is good news!

Re: Cobalt Chromium rods

I have cobalt chrome rods, too. Cobalt chromium is extremely strong and very incredibly creep-resistance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creep_(deformation)) for more information), making it very good...

Re: Can feel a screw!! :(

I too can feel a few of them but they do not hurt or anything. It's just weird. I am sure it is fine, but get it checked if you are worried!

Re: Braces - do they help the pain or slow down curve?

You should be properly fitted for one. If you are still growing, braces can actually reduce the curve. I went from 83 to 70. That is significant change but still in the high range, so I eventually...

Re: Surgery failure

Hi guys,

I am sorry for that post, reading it now I see how it could have been offensive.

What I meant to say is, yes, I had a great outcome, but more importantly, you can too. I meant to be a...

Re: has anyone had to have their back broken in order to fuse it?

I did. My surgery involved 13 levels, and I believe 8 of them were cut. Basically the back ends of the vertebrae are gone. This allows better correction. The cons are obviously this is a lot more...

Re: Surgery failure

I just got on here as I was in Florida for a few weeks but I truly feel for you my man, and rest assured there will be good and bad days, but you will ultimately be fixed. Not a day does by that I...

Re: Upper body strength

During physical therapy they will have you do some basic things like very light rows and swiss ball walks and things like this. The idea is to get back into the swing of things. After a year, I went...

Re: In need of help/advice!

I went to two doctors. One of them said surgery was not a good idea as it was too risky. The second one said surgery was a no-brainer and I should absolutely fix it. Well, I went with the second...

Re: Surgery scheduled for June 5th, but I'm going to chicken out.

FWIW..my doctor said my risk of nerve injury was about 1/1000..(.1%)

And that was a 12 level fusion with osteotomy and the whole bit.

Think it just comes down to how confident and competent the...

Re: Clicking and pain - normal?

clicking/cracking is normal. contrary to popular belief, it is most likely not the bones but tendons/ligaments/muscles balancing out. the pain on the other hand is something i would look into.

Re: Suicidal, my hunchback has only brought pain and lonelyness

I agree. I am just chiming in to tell you the other side, too. If you get your back fixed you have a new appreciation for a lot of things. I do realize there are people who still have some minor...

Re: What would life be like if you didn't have the surgery?

I would certainly find it difficult to do basic things, like cook or do laundry. I wouldn't enjoy the things I enjoy nearly as much. I build computers and teach music for a living. I also do...

Re: Suicidal, my hunchback has only brought pain and lonelyness

Been there, done that. You can find relief here if you find the right surgeon. It is tough to fathom, trust me, I know, but I've been there and back. You can change your life anytime you want. You...

Re: How close were you to calling it all off?

I have to be honest, once I decided on a surgeon and to go ahead, I had no doubts whatsoever. In the years leading up to surgery yeah I had a lot of doubts as to if I needed it or not. But once I...

Honestly, as said above, between cell phones, a thinning ozone layer, microwave overs, and all of the processing done to our foods these days, a little extra x-ray never hurt anyone. Kidding of...
