Re: Positive people :)

Poor you, it sounds like you are getting a rough deal with all these different conditions to contend with :squeeze: I hope the new meds and gloves help. xx

Re: Positive people :)

Oh I didn't know you had fibromyalgia too! Interestingly, I was reading an article recently which said that having scoliosis was a risk factor for developing fibromyalgia, so there may be others...

Re: Positive people :)

I know exactly what you mean :) I think some people forget they are 'support' groups and that arguing or accusing people isn't really being 'supportive'!

Thank you all for being so lovely - and the...

Positive people :)

Haven't posted on here for a long time, though I do pop in from time to time to see what is going on :)

I just wanted to tell you what lovely, positive people you are :D I will tell you why I'm...

Re: Another height question

I wonder could it be anything to do with your head/neck posture? If you have forward head posture, that will make you 'smaller' - if you stretch up through the back of your neck and have your head...

Re: Addicted to pain meds?

I was going to make this point too but you beat me to it Karen :) My understanding is that you have an 'addiction' if you are abusing the drugs and using more and more to get a 'high'. Whereas...

Re: Hip pain! Scoliosis related?

My piriformis gets tight too so I know what you mean about painful massage - it brought tears to my eyes (literally) when I had it done!

That's great it is nothing more serious though, hopefully the...

Re: cosmetic aids to reduce appearance of lordosis/spinal curvatures

I'm another fan of the Alexander Technique :) It isn't a therapy as such...it is actually quite difficult to explain, but it will improve your posture and teach you to let go of muscle tension in...

Re: Hip pain! Scoliosis related?

Apart from taking painkillers, the one thing that helps me most is avoiding sitting :) If I have to sit, I make sure I sit in a firm chair where I can keep a proper posture - any time I have to sit...

Re: Hip pain! Scoliosis related?

Hi Emily :)

Sounds like it could be your sacroiliac joint. I have problems with my SI joint because my pelvis is twisted (because of the scoliosis) - I feel the pain in my hip and it is worse after...

Re: Newly diagnosed after hip pain

In my case, my chiropractor wanted me to wear the shoe insert permanently. I have never heard of it being used on a temporary basis but your physio should be able to advise you on that...

I suppose...

Re: Newly diagnosed after hip pain

Yes, I'm the same - even without an X-ray, you can clearly see my hips are at different levels. One side of my pelvis is rotated forward and the other backwards, so that's why it appears my legs are...

Re: Newly diagnosed after hip pain

Just be careful with the shoe inserts. I was told by a chiropractor that I had a leg length discrepancy of 15mm so he gave me a shoe insert to counteract that. The problem was I don't actually have a...

Re: Finally got my x rays done!

It is a very common postural problem to push the hips forward, hyperextend the knees back and lean backwards with the upper body. No-one thinks they lean back of course, they all think they are...

Re: raised shoulder

Yep! Most people think having good posture means 'holding' yourself in a certain position...but all that does is create more tension in your body. Truly good posture is about fluidity and graceful...

Re: raised shoulder

This is exactly right! You may remember I am a big fan of the Alexander Technique and my AT teacher used to say that the people who came to him in most pain were the ones who had tried to 'correct'...

Well...my plan to cut my hours at work is finally coming together :) I got the support of the Occupational Health Doctor and the Director has approved my request to go down to 30 hours a week. I'm...

Re: Is it worth it?

People who know my story will know I have tried for about 8 years to get doctors to listen to me...and that only in the past month, I have finally got a 'diagnosis' of scoliosis and...

Re: Loss of cervical lordosis and other such neck problems?

I (almost) corrected my forward head posture by practising the Alexander Technique. Before I started AT lessons, I had a straight neck and pronounced forward head posture. I still have a tendency to...

Re: Options for high curves/cervical scoliosis?

Yep, same :) You can help this a bit by doing some gentle stretches, but you will probably always be stiffer on that side.

Re: Needing time to vent

This is true :( And sometimes you don't even get to see an orthopaedic consultant because the GP decides that your case isn't bad enough to warrant further investigation, going by xrays taken lying...
