Re: Newly diagnosed after hip pain

In my case, my chiropractor wanted me to wear the shoe insert permanently. I have never heard of it being used on a temporary basis but your physio should be able to advise you on that...

I suppose...

Re: Newly diagnosed after hip pain

Yes, I'm the same - even without an X-ray, you can clearly see my hips are at different levels. One side of my pelvis is rotated forward and the other backwards, so that's why it appears my legs are...

Re: Newly diagnosed after hip pain

Just be careful with the shoe inserts. I was told by a chiropractor that I had a leg length discrepancy of 15mm so he gave me a shoe insert to counteract that. The problem was I don't actually have a...

Re: Finally got my x rays done!

It is a very common postural problem to push the hips forward, hyperextend the knees back and lean backwards with the upper body. No-one thinks they lean back of course, they all think they are...

Re: raised shoulder

Yep! Most people think having good posture means 'holding' yourself in a certain position...but all that does is create more tension in your body. Truly good posture is about fluidity and graceful...

Re: raised shoulder

This is exactly right! You may remember I am a big fan of the Alexander Technique and my AT teacher used to say that the people who came to him in most pain were the ones who had tried to 'correct'...

Working fewer hours :)

Well...my plan to cut my hours at work is finally coming together :) I got the support of the Occupational Health Doctor and the Director has approved my request to go down to 30 hours a week. I'm...

Re: Is it worth it?

People who know my story will know I have tried for about 8 years to get doctors to listen to me...and that only in the past month, I have finally got a 'diagnosis' of scoliosis and...

Re: Loss of cervical lordosis and other such neck problems?

I (almost) corrected my forward head posture by practising the Alexander Technique. Before I started AT lessons, I had a straight neck and pronounced forward head posture. I still have a tendency to...

Re: Options for high curves/cervical scoliosis?

Yep, same :) You can help this a bit by doing some gentle stretches, but you will probably always be stiffer on that side.

Re: Needing time to vent

This is true :( And sometimes you don't even get to see an orthopaedic consultant because the GP decides that your case isn't bad enough to warrant further investigation, going by xrays taken lying...

Re: Needing time to vent

This makes me sad...our experiences are so similar :( I understand exactly what you mean about wanting to know more about your curve...you just want to understand what you are dealing with so you can...

Re: Is 'muddling' along enough?

I promise I will shut up after this (I know I do go on!!). But I just wonder if you learnt how to lean and bend and lift in a different way, would this cause you less pain? There are ways you can...

Re: Is 'muddling' along enough?

I understand...the expense is certainly a downside :( And it isn't the sort of thing you can learn just from reading about it - there is no substitute for one-to-one sessions with a qualified...

Re: Is 'muddling' along enough?

There is something in AT called 'constructive rest' where you lie flat on the floor with your knees bent. But it isn't an 'exercise' as such, it is just a position to help you to relax your muscles....

Re: Is 'muddling' along enough?

Would you consider trying the Alexander Technique? Just to see if it could relieve some of that 'vice grip' you talk about...

The Alexander Technique helps by becoming more aware of where you are...

Re: Depressed and angry because of treatment by doctors

Thank you :) I will be happier and less stressed once I can put it all behind me and really move on with my life. So once I see the occupational health doctor again, I'm hoping that will be the end...

Re: After 7 years....finally some answers

That's an interesting article, thanks for posting :) It is such a misunderstood condition, no-one really knows what causes it (if it really is one condition and not just a collection of symptoms!)....

Depressed and angry because of treatment by doctors

I am having a hard time coming to terms with the way I've been treated by the medical profession. I go between being angry and then depressed at the way I've been dealt with over the past 8 years. I...

Re: After 7 years....finally some answers

To be honest, having a diagnosis of 'fibromyalgia' is meaningless anyway...there is no cure and no treatment for it, other than the painkillers we all take already for our back pain.

I still have...

Re: After 7 years....finally some answers

Being 'tired' is something that is very subjective and it is difficult to know what is 'normal' and what is out of the ordinary. I began to know there was something wrong when I was waking up after...

Re: After 7 years....finally some answers

From what I can understand, having any sort of chronic pain makes you more 'prone' to developing fibromyalgia. It seems that chronic pain causes changes in the brain which make you hypersensitive to...

Re: Update, thoughts and questions

Another thing you definitely need to be aware of is 'trying to stand up straight'. When you try to do that, you are just adding more muscle tension to your body and are more likely to add to your...
