Re: Cost of thoracoplasty?

In Canada the only surgeries that aren't covered under your provincial healthcare plan are elective cosmetic procedures (specifically those performed by plastic surgeons, like nose jobs and breast...

Re: Hyper-kyphosis, Lordosis, Flatback, Thoracolumbar Scoliosis, DDD, Spondylolythesi

I don't know for sure, and someone might come on here and correct me, but disc collapse/herniation/perforation or spondylolythesis aren't always side effects of scoliosis and occur for many reasons...

Re: Hey all!

It's been an ongoing fight for several years now. I was forced to drop out of school and I haven't been able to work for 4+ years whilst waiting for doctors to sort things out. When I've tried to...

Re: Hey all!

I noticed in one of your posts you said that you "applied" to see a specialist? I was just wondering what you meant by this - I am in Ontario as well, and have not been able to see a scoliosis...

Re: Introduction, hello!

Hello, and welcome!

Sorry to be so nosy, but do you mind my asking why you are getting surgery on a 40 degree curve? I was told that 50 degrees is usually the cutoff for surgery.

In fact, I have...

Re: Scoliosis progression?

Everyone on this board stresses the importance of seeing a scoliosis specialist so much, I guess I just thought it was an imperative that everyone with scoliosis see one.

I suppose the main reason...

Re: Scoliosis progression?

I actually turn 30 this year. I noticed that I put in an earlier entry that I was diagnosed at 17, but I looked back through my medical records and I was actually diagnosed at 19. I was routinely...

Re: Scoliosis progression?

This is made worse by the fact that geographically just the province of Ontario is larger than the UK as a whole, so the population is spread over a very large area. Since a specialist of any kind...

Re: Scoliosis progression?

Unfortunately this "doctor" was my last resort. My GP has been trying to refer me to a scoliosis specialist for two years and not one has agreed to take me as a patient.

Re: Scoliosis progression?

The reason I am concerned its that my curve measures right around the 40 degree mark (I was told it's 38 degrees but that there is always an allowance for some margin of error so it could be slightly...

Scoliosis progression?

I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I'm looking for links to legitimate medical journals and/or literature about progression of scoliosis in adults.

The reason I ask is that my GP...

Re: Anyone else had this experience?

I had the exact same experience, except mine is ongoing - I still haven't been able to see a specialist or get any treatment and I'm almost 30.

Re: Turned down

Gosh ... reading posts like this make me feel like maybe I should be more self-conscious of my own back :/

My own lordosis is that severe (or more) and no one has ever commented on it - at least...

Re: Post-fusion issues at secondary school

If a second set of books isn't available (the elementary school I went to was very short on books, so this would never have been possible) perhaps someone could photocopy the relevant pages each day...

Have you been on antibiotics at all? Have you had blood taken, especially your white cell count and sed rate? It is not normal to have a fever as a result of being in pain - a fever is almost always...

Re: Scoliosis and Illness?

I am about 95% sure that my scoliosis was not missed and that it showed up later.

My family doctor was very "old-fashioned" and did the bending forward test (the Adam's test) at my annual...

Question Scoliosis and Illness?

I was just wondering if it is possible to develop scoliosis as the result of an illness ...

I developed scoliosis quite late compared to most other people - it wasn’t found until I was almost 17....

Just wondering if by "weak bones" you are referring to osteopenia/osteoporosis, or something altogether different? Was your son diagnosed from a bone density scan (DXA or DEXA scan)?

I have heard...

Re: Absolutely fuming with doctors/consultants

Apparently there are doctors out there with x-ray vision:roll2:. My GP laughed and told me she could "tell from across the room" that my scoliosis was not as severe as the x-ray report indicated. She...
