Re: One year post op

Thanks everyone! I'm doing well. :)

I don't think that I have much advice regarding sneezing... it's still awkward for me, too! It's not as painful as it used to be, but it is still really stiff...

Re: Scolosis Surgery purely for cosmetic reasons?

I was under Dr. Hostin. I had a great experience at Baylor.

I know that a lot of people are concerned with the depression component, but there are certainly ways to deal with that portion without...

Re: Scolosis Surgery purely for cosmetic reasons?

I'm a year post op, and I would never, ever, ever have done the surgery for cosmetic reasons. I came out great, but that doesn't mean that the surgery doesn't carry risks, lots of hardship, and pain....

Re: Health Insurance question

Hey there! I'm one of the few Americans on here, as most of the other people are from the UK and deal with the NHS system there.

There's a few general types of insurance, but for specific questions...

Re: Beware: "Raindrop Therapy"

I'm bumping this thread back up, because I was just at an essential oil party where the practitioner claimed scoliosis could be cured with the raindrop therapy.

Essential oil therapies are getting...

Re: Spine malformation+chest wall malformation+chest wall hypoplasia a

Hi Doris,

I missed the part where you said that you are now 27. In the US, the children's hospitals treat patients 18 and under. However, the hospitals you mention can be very good sources of...

Re: Spine malformation+chest wall malformation+chest wall hypoplasia a

Hello There!!!!

Most of the lovely people here are from the UK, but there's some people from the US like me here, too.

I don't know much about the surgeon's you mention, but I know the Shriners do...

Re: How much does the surgery affect your quality of life?

Greensky,

You're a tough one, as no one can predict the future. You are certainly borderline for surgery, and those are some of the toughest decisions.

Surgery is no guarantee of being pain-free,...

Re: Clayton Stiitsel?

I think my main concerns regarding the fusion is what could happen if the person develops osteoporosis later in life. What happens to the screws then? Etc. I decided to cross that bridge when I come...

Re: cold weather

I've heard of it, but I haven't experienced it myself, yet. I'm learning that I experience different things at different times in recovery.

Re: Clicking at the top of the fusion

Thanks!:) I think it is probably soft tissue, since I've felt it pop before when my hand was on it. I was just a bit worried since it hadn't been doing it previously, and was at the top of the...

Clicking at the top of the fustion

Hello everyone,

I'm nearly 9 months postop , and am doing pretty well.

I just noticed that my upper spine/neck has started clicking, for lack of a better word. It feels like I'm cracking my...

Re: Best type of clothing to wear during recovery

I liked nice, comfy pull over nightgowns, and occasionally the shorter, loose pajama bottoms. I stayed away from anything that was going to be tight/cinched around the middle, or anything that was...

Re: Question for the ladies

I had mine the day after surgery while in the ICU mid September. After that, I didn't have one until December.

Update: Post op Appointment

Hello everyone,

I just got back from the doctor's office, and they told me that they lifted all restrictions for me. They want me to do a little bit of physical therapy, but other than that, I'm...

Re: Going for it

I'm definitely glad I did mine! I figured that it was better to do it at 29 as it wasn't going to get any easier. My post-op appointment (3ish! months) is this Friday. I'm hoping to get clearance to...

Re: Dentists chairs and scoliosis?

So sorry for your bad experience! So awful!

To be honest, I just went to my dentist at 4 months postop, and had no problems with the chair. Of course, the dental hygenist was much nicer than what...

Tailbone hurting

Over the past few weeks, I've noticed that my tailbone region has started to hurt. I haven't done anything unusual, just sitting and walking, no falls. It's not a sharp pain, just feels bruised. Has...

Re: Before and After Pictures of Emily

Great correction! As I mentioned in the other post, her left arm is stretching more than her right to play the flute as well, since the flute is on the right side of the body. I think pain in that...

Re: Injections?

Is there anything to lose by trying the injections first? It sounds like it could give you some answers first, before going to surgery. So sorry you're still in such pain.

Re: Can you feel the hardware?

I can't feel my hardware, unless I run my hand over my back. I'm mostly unconscious of it, aside from stiffness. If I feel around on my back I can find where some of the screws are, but they aren't...

Re: When can my daughter play the flute again after surgery?

I don't think it will bother anything to have her play the flute. It actually can be played with very good (straight) posture. (I've played the flute when I was younger.) I wouldn't worry too much...
