Haha, that's funny Tiffany. I haven't been online much this past week or so b/c it is really starting to pick up at work and when I'm home I'm trying to keep up with things.

Re: Facing long surgery wait

If I had to do it all over again, I'd put more responsibility on our family doctor. He'd be the one I'd be pestering to get his butt in gear and send not just one letter of recommendation but as many...

Re: Facing long surgery wait

If you're close to skeletal maturity, then I'm thinking you won't progress as quickly as my son did who was around 12 when first diagnosed at 48* and then ended up at 110*-115* by the time he was 14...

Re: Had my appointment this morning with the surgeon...

I've read quite a few accounts on the NSF about people who have been fused to sacrum/fixation and are doing well and pretty much do most things they did before the surgery, they just do things a bit...

Re: Facing long surgery wait

Yes, thanks to Shriners BC/Canada that took him on and sent him down there. Unfortunately Shriners is just for kids, not adults. :(

Re: Facing long surgery wait

I think the wait times are even longer here in British Columbia, at least for kids with scoliosis/kyphosis. My son was put on the list for consultation and after 1.5 years of waiting, calling and...

Re: Last Minute Jitters

I would think the most important thing about having the surgery is to stop further progression and that cosmetic benefits are a bonus? That's what I've read over and over for the past year. My son's...

Re: New here, had my surgery last week :)

Hi! You sound remarkably well for someone who's had surgery so recently. I see you're from Canada too, which province do you live?

Re: How long was your / your child's hospital stay?

5 weeks.

Okay, that's not typical, but you did ask, heh. From what I've read, a week's stay or slightly less if everything goes well.

Re: Why is scoliosis more previlant in women than it is men?

Thanks! It was a crazy ride to say the least but all worked out in the end. Not a journey I ever thought we'd take but I guess that's what makes life interesting. And yes, Elias was such a great kid...

Re: Why is scoliosis more previlant in women than it is men?

Yes, he had a full spine MRI in January, as well as x-rays, his curve measured 110*. In the two months we waited for surgery dates, he lost another inch in height so perhaps his curve was closer to...

Re: Why is scoliosis more previlant in women than it is men?

My son's spine was totally straight until he turned about 12.5 years old and then his curve went insanely crazy in a very short time period. He has AIS not congenital. I hope some day we'll know what...

Re: Loosing 20 lbs. After Surgery?

Yes, the US and especially Canada are HUGE. It's funny when people don't realize how big even British Columbia is and when they think we might hook up when they get here they're a bit surprised, heh....

Re: Loosing 20 lbs. After Surgery?

20lbs. seems like quite a bit of weight to lose after surgery but I guess it's possible. My son had two surgeries a month apart and he lost ten pounds. He also gained four inches in height after his...
