Re: Good luck Andrea and Erin

This has been a tough ride! The op itself went ok. I'm only saying ok as they couldnt get any screws in on one side of her spine so had to use wire. They seem to think its secure enough to get a...

Re: Mehta casting

Ben Taylor casted my daughter years ago but has since left Stanmore to work exclusively in the private sector. This may have changed since? As far as I know, he's at the Wellington. Hope that helps.

Re: Good luck Andrea and Erin

Toni - he didn't do it in one op as he didn't think her body would handle it, being so skinny. I'm glad he made the call he did. Curve wise, it hasn't been measured for a while but I estimate it was...

Re: Good luck Andrea and Erin

Thanks everyone, and thanks Rachie for updating. Yes, Erin is bored because she can't get up, so we're trying to keep her positive. Next step is fusion and an extensive costoplasty (their words) on...

Re: *** URGENT POLL *** Your opinions are urgently needed - poll closes on 15th Novem

Hi Gilly. Had the choice been available to us, we would have gone with the magec rods. We did discuss switching to them after a few lengthenings, but because there were no studies on their use in a...

Re: magec rods

Hi. I don't have any experience of these rods and don't know anyone in real life who has had them, so I'm afraid I can't help with info, but wanted to wish you luck with the op. Hope it goes...

Re: The time has come...

Thanks for info Rachie. Yes, the rods are still attached but just not lengthening for whatever reason (they couldn't tell me without speaking to Mr T as I think they just didn't know). I do worry...

Re: The time has come...

Thanks peeps. I'm getting my head around the whole thing now and composing my list of questions. I pity anyone who has an appointment after us, they might be somewhat delayed!

Tiff, she's already...

Re: Newbie- Our Little Man Ev

Hi. I'm sorry to hear about your little soldier. I don't know anything about the condition he has but I hope the advice you've received here helps a little. My daughter currently has growth rods, but...

The time has come...

Hi all. Hope everyone is ok. Erin was in for a lengthening last week and we finally got the news that her rods have stopped working and fusion is the next step. We haven't got to the bottom of why...

Re: Just wondering...

It may well be a permanent cure for Amy. I hope so. As I say, adults for whom scoliosis is no longer a problem, don't tend to frequent support forums, so they're difficult to find.

It's been a long...

Re: Just wondering...

I do know children for whom casting has worked, but they're not yet teens so I can't predict whether they will start to curve again during the adolescent growth spurt. Once a curve reaches a certain...

Re: some Qs about curve direction and x-rays

It's not a silly question at all! After 8 years it still confuses me, not helped by the fact that some of Erin's xrays go one way and some the other!

Hopefully Toni and Titch have cleared it up for...

Re: A first hello

Hello and welcome. I think most of us travel some distance to see a specialist. It's a lucky person that lives close to one I think.

Sorry to hear about your daughter, but it's good that she's not...

Re: Young baby just diagnosed

I would expect the xray to show the back as if looking at it from underneath her (although have never had a lying down xray so am not sure), so if the curve is on the right it will be a right sided...

Lol, this is just one of those things that never go into my head!! If you say left Rachie, then I'd go with you. Erin I think is right - her rib hump is on the right side of her body as I look at her...

Re: Young baby just diagnosed

Hi LJ and welcome. From what you say, it sounds like Amy has a right sided curve, with the curve on the right side of her body. Having said that, I've been dealing with scoliosis for about 8 years...

Re: Update on Maddy

Hi Rachie

I'm so pleased that life feels normal now. Maddy has always been our benchmark for how things might go with us, being that little bit older than Erin, and it's so reassuring to see that...

Re: My Son Has Recently been diagnosed with Congential Scoliosis

Hello Alan, and welcome. I'm sorry to hear of your son's diagnosis. My daughter was of a similar age when first diagnosed, but with idiopathic scoliosis, hence my knowledge of congenital is patchy at...

Re: growth rods in on the 28th January

Hi Tara

I haven't been around for a while, how have you been? I know the growth rod op is scary, but it really won't be anywhere near as scary as you think it will be, and they really are a godsend...

Hi Jo and welcome. My daughter had growth rods inserted when she was 5, after 3 years of casts and braces. The initial op is tough, but day to day life after recovery is the same as ever, with just a...

Re: Mommi Little Curved Angel

Hello and welcome. I'm sorry to hear of your little one's problems and especially the pain. We have "grown up" with scoliosis, but not congenital, which is a different thing altogether, so I'm not...
