Hi everyone,

Can you have an MRI scan when you have metal rods and screws in your back?

thank you
Sheila:)

Hi Shiela,

Yes you can :) I've had a number of them over the years, and CT scans too. There were no problems with either except the metalwork can distort the images to some extent.

Hi All,

Thanks very much for your replies

My back is ok ishhhh.

My shoulders are hurting a bit and I'm still very much aware of the metal work. However - I'm still glad I had surgery.

My consultant just wants me to have an MRI - to check there is nothing sinister going on - so fingers crossed.

(Bluestone - I hope your ok - I can't believe how quick time has gone - over 3 years - I think my consultant was looking to get rid of me by now :D)

xx

Im very aware of my hardware too Sheila-too aware!
Im having a lot of pain issues which i thought were to do with some protruding screws but now its all over and recently my lumber :(
Mr Ahmed has offered removal but naturally im reluctant., hes also offered injections-im seeing him again in June.

I agree the time has flown by-i cant believe im 3 and a half years post op.

Hope your mri will be okay xx

Re: Mri Scan

Hi Sarah,

I also have protuding screws and I also am beginning to wonder if my body just doesn't like this metal work - the bottom of my back is fine - this was fused but with no metal work - its the top giving me grief.

I had my mri scan today - so I just need to wait and see now.

take care
Sheila x
