Hi,

I am new member and I am here on behalf of my niece. She is 12. Two weeks ago she was diagnosed with scoliosis. She doesn't live in UK and I am looking for information on specialist consultant on the private health sector that might help her with non surgical treatment for scoliosis. Also is there a specialist centre that might help?

Thanks in advance,

Matilda

Hi Matilda, welcome to SSO :welcome2:

I'm sorry to hear your neice has scoliosis. Do you know the degree of her curvature?

If you're looking for a medically-qualified scoliosis consultant (ie a doctor) then your neice might consider seeing one of the doctors that prescribe the Spinecor brace. We can provide you with details of the hospitals where she could see one of these doctors.

If she'd prefer to try physiotherapy rather than seeing a doctor, then two of our members are currently having encouraging results with Joanna Slup, a Schroth therapist based in London.

I would recommend that your neice is monitored by a specialist scoliosis doctor if she tries any non-surgical treatment, just to keep an eye on her curve :)

Good luck!

Toni xx

My daughter had successful treatment in Australia and I can recommend for Australia and USA. Where is she located? Helen

Recommending treatments are not a good idea unless they can be scientifically proven, and backed by studies. You seem like a very nice person and I am glad that it appears to have worked for your daughter but even if I was young with the scoliosis as I had it, now there is absolutely no way this would have worked for me. Only want you to be careful what you say as it can hurt people as everyone's case is not the same.

Lorraine.
