Hi guys, I don't no if you remember but I wrote off to the PM in August re: scoliosis treatment and how it sucked cos we have to wait long (not in those words....it was a very intellectual letter...by my standards anyways) and so yeah they passed it onto stromount....the N.I assembly.

This is their reply.......

Dear Miss Morrison,

You wrote to the Prime Minister on 12 August, regarding the provision of Scoliosis treatment. As the appropiate Department in northern Ireland, we have recieved your letter, and been asked to reply.

I fully understand the fustration and distress caused by long waiting times; however I can assure you that Angela Smith, The Minister with responisibility for Health, Social Services and Public Safety, views reducing the length of time patients wait for treatment as a high pirority and is fully committed to delivering further improvements. Significant additional investment has beenmade in hospitals and other services here and as a result, waiting lists have been reduced over the last four years.

It is the case, however, that waiting times for some specialities such as orthopaedic surgery, remain long. In an effort to reduce waiting times in this area, more resources are being put into orthopaedics, espically consultant surgeons. This, i time will help to ensure patients recieve the treatment they need when they need it.

With regards to the provision of Scoliosis treatment in particular, although there has been good progress in the reduction of waiting times for Scoliosis treatment over the past two years, this type of specialised surgery is still vulnerable to delays. This is due to both the small number of surgeons who provide this service in Northern Ireland and also the need for vacant intensive Care Bed for recovery after surgery has been carried out.

I'm sorry I cannot be of more help, but I would like to take this opportunity to wish you well for your furture surgery and trust my letter assures you of the work being done to imprive services to patients and reduce the length of time people have to wait.

Well all in all....im pretty pleased with that....its nice of them to wish me well formy surgery (although in August I didnt no I was getting it....but they musta looked into who I was or summit....)

What do you guys think?

Wow, that says a lot that they wrote back. And that definitely wasn't a "thanks for writing, the end" letter like Julianne got when she wrote to YM.

That's a really nice letter :-) Hopefully waiting times will reduce over the next few years. Writing back with just a nice brief "thanks for your kind reply regarding" sort of thing would probably be good - it'll give them the incentive to keep up the good work replying to people :D
