Hello everyone! I posted a few months back about my now 5 1/2 year old who was diagnosed with scoliosis at her 5 year check up. She had an x-ray and she had a 23 degree C curve with about a 6 degree rotation. She saw an Orthopedic Sepcialist in May and he said for now we will just monitor it. Well..... Saturday (the 25th) she had another x-ray and her curve is down to 15 degrees according to the radiologist and the rotation is all but gone! Is this possible!!!??? She did go through a big growth spurt over the summer and gained about 1 1/2 inches in height. I am SOOOo excited! We go back to the specialist on Sept 4th (next Tuesday). I'm assuming that he will want to do another set of x-rays again in about 6-8mo. Hopefully it stays like it is, or maybe it could even improve more??? (I was surprised because the Dr had actually said that Juvenile Scoliosis doesn't usually improve?... he said it either stays the same or gets worse)
Emily (5 1/2 years old), was 23 degree C curve, now is 15.

Oh my gosh!!! Congrats, that sounds like wonderful news!! I do hope she really has improved. I haven't heard of juvenile curves spontaneously resolving, though infantile curves often do.
There is always supposed to be a 5 degree margin of error when measuring curves, so I'm wondering if Emily's curve was actually more like 18 degrees when it was first measured. 6 degrees of rotation is a tiny amount, so I guess that there could be a margin of error when measuring that too.
The most important thing is that she's had a big growth spurt and that hasn't negatively affected her scoliosis!! This really is good news!!! :D

Really pleased to hear your news! :spin:
Hopefully, her curve will remain stable as she grows and need no intervention - now that would be really good news. :D

Hello. Just wanted to update on Emily..... We saw the Orthopedist on Sept 4th. He measured it differently that the radiologist. The Dr says that it's more like about 20 degrees now. (it was a little over 23 before).... so, it seems like she DID actually have a little bit of improvement! WOO HOO! You really can tell by looking at the x-rays that it did look a little bit better. We go back on Feb 5th to see the Orthopedist again (no x-ray this time, just a physical check).
Emily (5 1/2 yrs), 20 degree C curve w/5 degree rotation.

When my daughter was diagnosed at the age of 4 she was just monitored initially because of the possibility of the curve improving. Hers didn't improve but that's fantastic they think Emily's is improving.
