Well, today I phoned my fellow band members and quit the band. (www.tflrock.co.uk). Ive struggled through for a while now but my back has had enough. Well, not so much quit as taking time out to see if I can either loose some weight or exercise my back into some healthier state. The guys were great about it and said take as much time as you like. There's another drummer going to stand in for me for the gig this Friday. Id better update the website to this news, but you heard it here first. Just as I get a life this goes and balls's it up. Oh well, out with the rebok inflatable ball I suppose. I also get irregular heartbeats, ectopic I think they are called. Ive heard these can be caused by stress, caffiene, and interestingly enough, constant pain. On more than one occasion I drive from a gig with my ticker doing sommersaults. Well I wont go on, take care guys.
PS I took your advice and I,m waiting for an appointment to see another specialist, or have I mentioned that already?

Hi Ian,
you haven't mentioned about the appointment with the new specialist but I'm glad you're doing it.It just takes a bit of a push to make yourself go to the gp and ask for a referral.Tough luck on the band losing their drummer like that but I guess you gave it a lot of thought before taking the break.Hopefully the pain will pass and you'll find some way of dealing with the pain and the other symptoms.Hopefully the waiting list isn't bad and you'll be seen by a decent specialist in a few weeks and have some answers.half the battle is finding out what you're dealing with.
Good luck and keep us updated.
Sinead.

sorry to hear you've been having such a bad day. But you know, we all have one from time to time. I've been having far too much as I'd like since surgery, because it keeps me from doing stuff and I hate that. But then I remind myself to see the greater picture. This is only one moment in your entire life, and there will be plenty of good days once you get your backproblem sorted out. Just try to see the good things in life and don't hesitate to talk to any of us if you need to. We're here for you!

I'm sorry you had to take a break from something you enjoy Ian but it may be for the best just now. :squeeze: I hope you can return soon and obviously the replacement drummer won't be as good as you :D

Good luck with the appointment.

Good luck with the appointment, Ian - sounds like you really deserve someone to listen. I could never imagine what it would be like to have to give up your music, however temporarily - just horrible. Can identify with you with the concert pain - before my op, playing the violin in an orchestral concert put me in excruciating pain. Sounds like you had it even worse. :-(

I'm sorry. I know how rough it is to give up on something due to scoliosis... I had to stop showing horses two years ago when my back started getting really out of balance. I was giving up on my lifelong dream when I did that. I thought maybe I'd never be able to return to showing
I hope you get everything sorted out soon so you can go back to doing what you love! Life is a much happier place when you can follow your dreams!

Sorry to hear you're having (or had) a bad day. While I don't experience bad days in the same way as you guys do (in terms of pain etc), when Erin was first diagnosed I'd have many bad days when it seemed like the end of the world. These days, I don't have too many of those, but I can relate a little to what you're going through. You've probably done the right thing though - give youself some time to get back on form.
