I am so sorry. That is unconscionable. I certainly would cry foul and stupid! I think you are doing the right thing about your doctor. I would at least hold his feet to the fire for a bit. I cannot imagine what he was thinking. Maybe he confused two patients and once he looks into the correct patient chart his memory will be "refreshed" and he'll do the right thing.

Hi,

I understand your frustration! The whole process is a very difficult one. I don't think you've ever mentioned what kind of surgery your doctor is planning to do and I certainly don't want to jump to conclusions and give you the wrong impression of what your expectations should be. You mentioned that your daughter is 4 years old and you don't know what degree curvature she has? Do you know if he's planning to do spinal fusion or growth rods?

Hang in there! :squeeze:

Oh Sharon :(

Here's what I would do:

1. Make a list of questions and statements to put to Mr Lucas. We can help with those. You can then just read them out at him if you find yourself too angry/stressed to think straight when you see him. You need answers here!

2. Get the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) at Guy's Hospital on the case. They will be able to give you practical help when dealing with him.

3. If possible, get Courtney seen asap by another specialist (preferably one of the well-known spinal docs at Stanmore) so that you have more than one expert opinion.

It does seem very strange that he can't even remember his reasons for postphoning the surgery without his notes.....it won't be like he has a huge number of children with the same issues as Courtney!

I know you're extremely angry....hell, I am angry on your behalf.....but please try to stay in control of it so that you can make sure you get the answers you need. We are all here to help.

Toni xx

Sharon, Hello again. I would print off Tonibunny's response and make it my plan of attack! She is usually 100% spot on. Good Luck!

Ditto!!

I find it extremely hard to believe that your daughter can go from being so urgent that he couldn't even wait for a new MRI to being put in a cast which he says won't help but will allow him to delay the surgery :nut: :nut: :nut: What's this guy on??

Also, bearing in mind all the hassle you've had to get things sorted at work etc, I think he needs a heck of a lot better reason to cancel her surgery than that! I think perhaps slipping in the word 'negligence' when you talk to the patient liaison people wouldn't go amiss.

I really hope you can get all this sorted out, it really does beggar belief that you can be treated in this way.

Please keep us informed of your progress, and GOOD LUCK!
