View Full Version : 6 wks post op

Hi all,

- Took xrays and looks good no loose screws, (in my back that is) haha. I dont want to look at the xrays until the pain is gone!
- Doc wants me to ween off Oxcy, which I have..have experienced pain but decreases daily and find applying frozen peas wrapped in towels helpful.
- I have a list of activity restrictions and was hoping to break some records, (rollercoasters this summer, etc.) but I was told that the they can't tell if the fushion is working properly for at least one year so the restrictions are there for a reason.....yikes can't imagine going through this again!
-Received my insurance papers and covered only for 7 wks....even the Doctor stated that this is crazy and they have no idea of the recovery process...looks like I should be back to work after 14 wks and maybe part-time at first.
-I try to utilize the treadmill daily...we have experienced a lot of rain in California. I am up to 2 miles under 40 minutes and find this helps with the blues and the pain. I will be starting physical therapy this week. I am trying to look for a therapist that is experienced working with patients that have had back surgery.
-Everyday is a challenge and sometimes it seems that I am taking 2 steps back...just have to remind myself that is a long recovery.
Well that is it for now. I have next 12 week post op appointment May 23rd.

Glad to read your back on your feet and doing so well, back to work after 14 weeks must be some kind of SSO record. You have such a positive attitude and its great to read you are finding therapy in exercise. I think your Drs right about the rollercoaster though.

I hope you can find a physio who specialises in dealing with people who have had spinal surgery and you get back to work and normal in double quick time.

Hi Curvy, good to see you're doing well. That insurance coverage is crazy.
Have you been able to get it extended?keep in touch and continued good wishes for your recovery.

Hi Curvy, well done you! You are doing really well. I am 22 weeks post op & "nearly there"! The pain does get better & so does your flexibility. Each week brings something new that you can do. The insurance thing is outrageous!
Anyway keep in touch & take it easy.

Hey curvy! Well done on getting through the surgery! :niceone: Your 6 week appointment seems to have gone well.... everything is in its correct place! :D

The insurance thing is madness though I must agree..... I went back to work at 21 weeks post op (but I only work in a cafe....so it may not be as hard as your line of work)

oooh...the frozen pea thing doesn't sound too nice....I liked lying on a hot water bottle best! I hope the pain decreases soon!

Glad all is going well, Im around 13/14 weeks?! and also getting there. Not at work and dont plan on going for a while yet. Have decided to tone things down, chill and take things easy while money allows.

Happy and fast recovery.
