View Full Version : Scoliosis treatment information

mark

I think that it would be a good idea to build up a data base of hospitals and clinics and surgeons so that members or guests can refer to this if for any reason they do not get satisfactory answers or treatment from Drs and specialists within the areas they live or reside in. The information given could include contact names and telephone numbers if known.

I know personaly if i do not get any satisfactory answers from my referal to an orthopedic specialist i do not have a clue what i would do next or whom i would turn to.

I know that this information can be found on other sites i just think it would encourage people to stay with this community if they knew that they they could find this information on scoliosis support. And it may may encourage new members to join.

I agree Mark. It's always good to have that kind of information readily available. What's the situation with scoliosis treatment in the UK?
Is there a listing of consultants and surgical facilities throughout the country? There's no problem with listing the Irish surgeons........all 4 of them........any ideas Titch/Tim?

Well all my treatment had been at Childrens and its excellent even though I have never been able to wait a year before they open me up again so I know it doesnt sound like they are excellent but htey really are!

I think it's a really good idea to start forming a listing like that :-) Us staff need to get together one night and have a look through some modules at the test site :-D

I don't know how we would go about getting information on UK consultants, other than what we would find from people who have been treated by them, although each time we get a new centre listed, we could try contacting that centre and asking them to update us with the names of the consultants there - don't know if they would go for that, but it is worth a try 8-)

Well, I know that there are quite a few pediatric orthopaedic surgeons who specialize in spines in Chicago. There's more than one at my hospital and there are many other hospitals around here.

Marti
17th April 2004, 04:15 AM
Oh, and I think it's a very good idea. I'd be willing to help in anyway I can!

Kayla

Yes I second that!

Let's build up a list of hospitals we've been treated at, and the surgeons who looked after us, and then we can decide how to present the info when we have it. It might be helpful for other members of the site to be able to quickly find someone who has been treated by the same surgeon or at the same hospital. I'll start us off! Cut and paste the list to a new post, adding your own details :D

Orthopedic surgeons and Scoliosis specialists are quite differant .My surgeon who did my neck surgery doesn't I think know that much about Scoliosis , I know there is a lot of Scoliosis surgeons that will not put new discs into people with fusions . However this does seem to be changing .Who did the last list I saw , was it Smiler ?Oh well , Mr Hammer my surgeon is only one of two surgeons in this country to perform the Bryant Disc replacement operation at the moment .It's been only 8 weeks since my Op and I went on a very long walk up and down Pilgrims Way along the North Downs this afternoon after spending the morning paragliding , so I guess the operation works .

I love the Alberta Childrens Hospital. It is so inviting and it has made me consider a career where i can work in one...
and we are building a brand new one. I believe that they already started to build it, but hopefully i will not have to go back by the time it is finished, but then I COULD WORK THERE oh the possibilities!

I've just realised I never added mine to the list. I'm thinking that it's probably best to get a few more contributions before amalgamating them again into one list again though, otherwise the pages are going to get enormously long and people will be totally  scrolling though them :glee:

So anyway:

Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham: Titch (Mr Webb, 2000 to present)

I won't add details to my first surgeon, as he was not actually a specialist, and I couldn't recommend to anyone that they should see him.

Thought I would bump this thread because I intend to get a checkup. The rest of you might also find this thread useful if your New Year's resolution is to see a scoliosis specialist.

A list of scoliosis docs in Oz (missing from the above posts) can be found at the 'contacts' tab at:

I am sending Lucinda an email to ask if she can recommend a good doc in Melbourne too. Haven't heard from her in ages.
