View Full Version : Scoliosis Awareness color?

26th July 2005, 06:20 AM
I was trying to find out if there was a specific color set aside for scoliosis awareness and I could not find one. I am wondering if anyone has an idea of how we might go about creating the awareness color for scoliosis?

Wow, I was just thinking about that today!

26th July 2005, 09:15 AM
Browns my favourite colour. But yellow or white seems be the most a popular colour for wrist bands

26th July 2005, 11:52 AM
i dont know. I'd love to have a SS wristband though, can you actually get them, are you going to create some or what...? if they become available please tell me

26th July 2005, 11:57 AM
A while ago I asked if there were any avaliable and suggested we made some and I'm sure there is a fund for them made by someone on the site, I'm so so so sorry but I've forgotten who that is

26th July 2005, 12:57 PM
The website scoliosis.org have already done this.Their bands are due to be made available this month. The have the might of the NSF behind them and will no doubt be accepted as the official scoliosis awareness bands.

26th July 2005, 01:22 PM
ooooo wow! What colour are they going to be? What will they say? How much will they be?
Sorry for all the questions but wow I'm def gonna get one! :D

26th July 2005, 02:04 PM
Ok, the wristbands will be green I believe, with the three s shaped curves like in their logo.
Unfortunately SSO will not be proceeding with plans for wristbands any time in the near future. Our first priority is to deliver an improved support site for our members. To develop and distribute wristbands would deplete our funds and it is totally contrary to site policy to ask our members for funding. We do however have some exciting plans in the pipeline and we look forward to making some announcements in the near future. All will be revealed shortly.

26th July 2005, 04:24 PM
oh that's so cool. when they are available i def want to buy one =)

26th July 2005, 04:28 PM
I'm not just referring to the wristband colors but just the official color for "scoliosis awareness" like if we wanted to do the ribbon thing and whatnot. Who decides what color belongs to what awareness? I think blue seems appropriate only since most scoliosis things I see are in blue.

That would be great! Then we wouldn't have to worry about the donation issue we were having! I was looking there last night to find out information on how to get an official color. If those become the official wristbands, then no doubt will that color become the official awareness color. I was looking into getting ribbon pins made but I need a color! :D

26th July 2005, 05:53 PM
Of course, being Irish,I feel green is a particularly fine colour. :-D

26th July 2005, 08:03 PM
Well Sins, you are in luck! I emailed the NSF and they responded back stating that the official color is green! So there you have it! :D

26th July 2005, 08:15 PM
Excellent Lindsay.

26th July 2005, 09:08 PM
Green is a nice color!

26th July 2005, 09:24 PM
Julie, I love your new avatar! :D

26th July 2005, 09:34 PM
I'm going through a real green phase as far as interior design is going, so it's a good choice. It's probably not the nice period green I have in my living room, but it'll be nice all the same :D . I wonder if they'll do mini ones for children?

26th July 2005, 09:40 PM
i was thinking about this the other day, that's great progress has been made. i'm going to wear as many as i can fit on my arm :D

26th July 2005, 09:40 PM
The syringomyelia wristbands are blue, so I wouldn't think blue would be good for scoliosis. Green is nice as long as it isn't that dark dark green like the military wristbands. Yeeeuck!

26th July 2005, 10:03 PM
I was thinking that since the NSF is going to produce the wristbands, I would like to use the money already donated (if those who donated don't mind) to get some awareness ribbon pins made. They are MUCH cheaper and we might be able to get some done within our lifetimes (unlike with the wristbands! :D) Anyway, here's what I was looking at. They are a really good price, especially for volume orders.

AWARENESS PINS (http://www.pinscentral.com/xq/asp/item.005003/Licensee.76545/qx/showproduct.htm)

Edit: The pins would have NO ASSOCIATION with SSO unless you want them to. They would just be for general awareness. :D

26th July 2005, 10:54 PM
Will we have to buy the wristbands directly from NSF?

Does anyone know how much they will cost?

Thanks Love Jules xxxxx

26th July 2005, 10:55 PM
My guess is yes you will. But I am not sure on the cost. You can email the person at scoliosis.org and ask them. :D

26th July 2005, 10:56 PM
Oh rite I see, wow this is so exciting finally a wristband for scoliosis! :D

26th July 2005, 11:00 PM
Many of you may not know, but I got some business cards printed for SSO. They should be arriving in the next 3 weeks! :D I'm excited!

27th July 2005, 01:42 AM
Thanks Lindsay, I like my new avatar too! :)

Also I was going to comment, couldn't you use the wristband money to purchase wristbands from NSF as well? Seeing as how lots of people on SSO want some?

Just an idea....

27th July 2005, 02:36 AM
Julie, you are such a smart girl! I didn't even think of that! :P I'm stupid. Hee hee

27th July 2005, 02:26 PM
Greens a nice colour

27th July 2005, 02:31 PM
lol, i would like wristbands/ pins, if anyone on the site buys some or finds out where i can get one from i would b much obliged if they could tell me. :-) i like the green aswell

27th July 2005, 02:33 PM
We should find out soon, the NSF are planning to release them within a month :D

27th July 2005, 02:56 PM
We (the Admins) are in contact with the National Scoliosis Foundation, so we'll let you know as soon as they say they're ready :D

27th July 2005, 05:57 PM
Excellent! I'm excited that this was finally able to go somewhere. Even if it was not through SSO.

27th July 2005, 06:13 PM
Thanks so much! :niceone:

For children.?... you mean ME!? I have such tiny wrists, it's sad... I'll need a childs size... hehe

29th July 2005, 02:26 AM
Hee hee, me too! :D

29th July 2005, 03:54 PM
I think i'd have to go for a chld size too, i have tiddly wrists, maybe i'll get one of each

29th July 2005, 11:09 PM
I love those bracelets but only when people just use them for a fashion trend and they arent even for a charity. I think it is a good idea for scoliosis.

31st July 2005, 12:06 PM
That's so exciting! I've wanted a scoliosis bracelet for foreeeever and I'm so glad they're finally developing some. Can't wait to have my own!

2nd August 2005, 09:42 PM
Woo hoo! The business cards have arrived! :D

2nd August 2005, 09:45 PM
Woo Hoo i can't wait to see them

2nd August 2005, 10:04 PM
Well done Lindsay, that was fast.
:-D Are you happy with them?

2nd August 2005, 11:00 PM
Yes, they are really nice. I was only able to get part of them with the glossy finish and those are really nice. The other ones are nice too but I prefer the glossy. PM me with some info of where to mail a portion of them and I'll get a quote on shipping for you if you'd like.

9th August 2005, 05:58 PM
Woo hoo! I talked to the NSF and this is what they said:

There are wristbands that have been made and are ready for sale they just arenít uploaded on the store page yet. They will be $3/ea. (they come with a magnet). They will come in two sizes; adult and children.

YAY! :bounce:

9th August 2005, 06:53 PM
yay!!! do you know when they will be uploaded? I'm so excited about seeing them :D

9th August 2005, 07:58 PM
Cool, a magnet too.

9th August 2005, 08:30 PM
how do us english get them if there in dollars? I really do want one, or 5 :-D

9th August 2005, 09:11 PM
oh wow oh wow. i'm sure we can order them in bulk lizzie and get them delivered to one place maybe (it might be cheaper, postage wise that way) i guess we'll have to wait and see

9th August 2005, 09:39 PM
Marmyte has a point! The delivery charges from USA to overseas can be a bit steep from Nsf, so if you bulk order between a few of you, it might be easier(and cheaper) for you.

9th August 2005, 09:45 PM
woo i made a good point for once! :D i imagine some of us may want multiple wristbands anyways but it would be easier to co-ordinate to have them all delivered to one person if that would work out. don't know how keen anyone else is on the idea though

9th August 2005, 10:00 PM
I'd be keen on chipping in with that - I want one for me and one for Erin. I have to admit, I'm not fond of these bracelets unless they mean something to you, as so many people use them for fashion and the point kind of gets lost, but seeing as they mean A LOT to us, then I'm all for it (gee, that was a long sentence).

I'm happy to co-ordinate things (and I have a paypal account) unless someone else wants the honour.

9th August 2005, 10:05 PM
That'd be great andrea,you're duly elected!!!! :-D :-D

9th August 2005, 10:09 PM
Eeek, okey dokey. If they are already available, then lets start getting some numbers from people as to how many they want. Once numbers are collated we can order them. I'll order more than we need in case anyone is away or changes their mind or has a friend who wants one etc etc.

Don't want to steal Becky's idea though - it's still your job if you want it Becky!

9th August 2005, 10:11 PM
go for it andrea, i don't have a credit card and at the moment no income so unless i can rope my parents in i can't really do it. the job is yours, i second the motion :D i'll just find out how many we want...

9th August 2005, 10:14 PM
ok i would like at least 4 adult ones please. that figure may rise slightly but i'll keep you up to date

9th August 2005, 10:31 PM
I'd best start a spreadsheet :D :D

9th August 2005, 10:34 PM
that's far more efficient than i would be :D i'd be relying on this thread or a random scrap of paper. i'm going to do a quick check of my extended family and local people who are also affected and will update you

9th August 2005, 10:35 PM
I'm SO happy this is going somewhere!!! :D :D :D

9th August 2005, 10:35 PM
me too - i've had a very exciting evening considering i'm an invalid. i'm so easily pleased now (just so you don't worry about me, it's not just the wristbands i'm excited about)

9th August 2005, 11:12 PM
I def think I want some but not sure how many yet, I'll let you know how many I want Andrea thank you so much for organising this :D

10th August 2005, 09:20 AM
Oh, yay!!!

I can NOT wait to get one.

11th August 2005, 05:44 PM
will there be kids sizes aswell? :-? i have tiddly wrists! and my lil sis wants one 2... how much will they be?

11th August 2005, 05:54 PM
There will be youth sizes. They will be $3 each and come with a magnet as well. :D

13th August 2005, 02:58 PM
ah goody good good

15th August 2005, 06:40 PM
Have you seen that the scoli-bands are now uploaded on the nsf website, I've just looked at them and I'm not sure, they may grow on me. I was hoping they would be more obvious that they were for scoliosis, but I suppose a band is better than no band! :D

15th August 2005, 07:47 PM
Yeah, that is a little bit of a disappointment. I wish they at least SAID scoliosis on them!

15th August 2005, 08:05 PM
the positive i thought of is that wristbands are so "over done" now that there are many meanings for one colour, making it more of a potential conversation point. people don't necessarily know what they're for so they may be more likely to ask you and you can give them the sales pitch, which may be more effective as you can put it so that people understand

15th August 2005, 08:06 PM
Yer thats very true Becky!

15th August 2005, 08:09 PM
That is true. I still purchased a few already! I'm still excited, don't get me wrong! :D

16th August 2005, 12:05 AM
I just ordered mine! I'm so excited. At first I wished they had said scoliosis on them but now I agree with others - it'll bring more awareness about it I believe. I love the color and the logo :). Yay!!!

16th August 2005, 01:42 AM
I haven't visited this site in ages, but someone posted a notice about the bands in the Livejournal Gotscoliosis blog, so I had to come and make sure that this site was aware of them too.. how exciting! I hope everyone purchases one of these things! Imagine, it would be amazing to see another person wearing one, I have always wanted to speak face to face with another scoliosis patient...

16th August 2005, 04:13 AM
I ordered mine today too! I wish they did say scoliosis on them... one might see that little squiggly sign and just assume we were just wearing a green band on our wrists to go along with a fashion trend... But... Like somebody else said, better than nothing!
